As independent financial advisers we are able to advise and recommend appropriate portfolios and investments with access to a full range of investment and savings products. We work with our clients to fully understand their needs and requirements prior to making any recommendations. Do you know what your investments are worth?

If you’re a typical investor, you’ll have made a range of different investments over the past few years. The question is, are they all delivering what you want and expect – if, that is, you are properly tracking them at all?

The more investments you make, the harder it is to monitor each one closely to ensure it is performing in line with your objectives. This is especially so if you have invested in ‘flavour of the month’ funds or passively managed funds where the onus is on you to act if things aren’t going well. You might also have missed out on some important transfer opportunities.

Consider then the advantages of consolidating your investments into a low cost platform and adopting a fully diversified, actively managed fund.

Firstly, you could have your money in a fund that closely matches your current investment objectives and risk profile. Secondly, you’d have an expert investment manager regularly fine tuning the fund’s portfolio of investments so that pitfalls can be avoided and opportunities exploited. Thirdly, you’ll have just the one fund to track, making it be much easier to know the value of your investments.

Sounds good? We have a range of managed solutions to suit the needs of every risk profile, find out more by downloading our ISA brochure.

Please note that past performance is no guarantee to the future returns of a fund and prices of the underlying units and the income from them can fall as well as rise. Should you cancel the investment, especially in the early years, you may not get back the full value of the investment.

Our pension advice services

TISCO will typically first meet with you to get an insight of your current situation with regards to pensions. This will allow us to get a greater understanding meaning our recommendation has the potential to be far more effective. We would thoroughly expect our relationship to grow over time to continually check your pension is working for you.

We like to think of a pension as retirement bank accounts which are extremely tax efficient and personal to you, and we will explain in plain English how tax relief, employer contributions and/or salary sacrifice can significantly increase your contributions to help build a large fund for you to use in retirement.

financial-planners-3During our meetings, as part of our pension advice and investment process, we will also explain the importance of your attitude towards risk and work with you to agree this, discuss what investment choices your policy offers and agree a suitable mix of funds to get your policy started. We also offer a regular pension review process, and recommend all our clients take advantage of this at least annually. Most pension providers offer an on-line facility to administer your pension plan. Our existing clients can log-in here to our own system to receive real time valuations of your pension.

We will also look at other areas of pension advice. You may have other existing pensions and our pension transfer service can investigate, and report on the benefits or dis-advantages of you transferring / consolidating your existing pension plans into the new arrangement.

On the other hand you may feel that your employers scheme is not the scheme for you, our advanced pension service can arrange specialist pensions like SIPPs on an individual basis.

For our clients approaching retirement we offer a retirement planning service which advises on the most suitable way to draw your pension benefits.
In our experience, our pension service will help assure you of the benefits of pensions, addressing any queries you may have as well as helping dismiss many of the common myths regarding pensions. Did you know, for example, that if you die before you retire your beneficiary can receive the entire pension pot back tax-free?

Please contact us or call our St Albans office for pension advice on 01727 734040 and we will make suitable arrangements to help you with your pension needs.

Our pension review service

Whatever pension (or investment for that matter) you have it is crucial to review it regularly, and we recommend at least annually. Our clients are welcome to request an individual meeting on any occasion with one of our advisers.

Even if you choose not to meet with an adviser it is important to review your investment choices to confirm they are still in keeping with your attitude to risk. Have your circumstances or needs changed? Are investment returns in line with your expectations? Are there fund switches you wish to make or do you just want to consider re-balancing the existing holdings.

Are you contracted out or into the State Second Pension? Either way you should review this decision annually.

Help with your retirement planning

As you approach your intended retirement age the subject of pensions and retirement planning becomes increasingly important. In our experience people start pensions in their twenties or very early thirties. Most clients significantly review their contributions and overall plans in their early forties and by the age of 50 our clients have a good idea of when they will be able to retire and in what manner that is likely to be.

This is not achieved through pot luck and our retirement planning services include a holistic approach to your requirements, taking into account all your assets, potential sources of income and expected needs. We then recommend the appropriate solution and arrange any products necessary to achieve your goals. With the fairly recent introduction of pensions freedoms the retirement choices now available mean it is more important than ever to give serious thought to your retirement plans.

Whichever product or solution is most suitable our independent status allows us to source the whole market to find the best deal for you.

This service does not only apply to those nearing retirement, increasingly our younger clients are keen to obtain projections from all their various investment polices and pensions and have these projections at various ages summarised as part of a solid retirement plan. Pension planning spreadsheets and cash flow models can be prepared on a bespoke basis if required.

Our protection and insurance services

There are many ‘What If’s’ in life, and having protection against them can provide both financial support when it is most needed and also peace of mind. Whether you are protecting your life, income or health, there are usually different options you can take, and different priorities you should have.

Asking simple questions can outline the areas of your life you need to protect, while also giving an understanding of what your priorities should be.

What if you were to die? Would anyone suffer financially?

What if you were unable to work for an extended period? Would you be able to manage on Incapacity benefit of around £80 per week?

What if an operation you needed was going to take 12 months on the NHS? Would you want to wait?

Most people understand the need for life cover, although not all people have such a need. For example, a young, single professional who is renting a property has very little need for protecting their life. The financial impact of their death on other people would be minimal. However, if they were unable to work through accident or sickness, that could have a great impact on their own wellbeing.

The same is clearly not the case for a married person with children and a mortgage.

Discussing your needs, understanding the principles and selecting the correct options is vital in ensuring you have the correct type of financial support should the unexpected happen. Our Independent status allows us to look through your needs and circumstances and recommend the most suitable product(s) to give you peace of mind and cover as many eventualities as possible.

Our Wills and Inheritance Tax Planning service

You have worked hard for your money, and you want your family and beneficiaries to benefit from it rather than the wrong people. Clever use of fairly simple legal structures, allied with suitable products, can make sure you leave more behind for your family and make sure they are comfortable after you have gone.

Around two-thirds of the adult population has still not taken the important step of making a Will. What’s more, many existing Wills are either out-of-date or completely ineffective when it comes to ensuring that your wishes are followed or reducing the burden of Inheritance Tax.

The first and most important step is ensuring you have a will; this need not be time consuming or expensive, our Wills writing service starts from as little as £150.

A professionally prepared Will ensures that your wishes are fully met but it should also be the cornerstone of your asset protection planning – using trusts in line with suitable investment products can ensure an efficient movement of assets from one generation to another – so that you can minimise the amount of your estate which is passed to the taxman.

We have a number of publications available that help to explain the aspects of Wills and trusts. These are available on request and our advisers will be happy to go through them with you making sure you understand the importance of will writing.

Tax planning often goes hand in hand with writing a will and there are many sophisticated products out there that can help mitigate the exposure of your estate to tax on death.

Asset Protection and Inheritance Tax planning are complex subjects and something that TISCO specialise in.

All will recommendations are made by Countrywide Tax and Trust Corporation Ltd.

Please be aware that Wills, trust and tax planning are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

  • To whom it may concern,

Since deciding to retire early in 2015, Tisco (mainly in the guise of Mike Denton with support from James Smith) have been of great assistance in helping me to decide what to do with the pension fund that I had with in the form of two GPP’s and a Section 32 with Aegon / Scottish Equitable. After a number of meetings (both before and after my actual retirement), phone calls and correspondence to establish my exact requirements, a comprehensive report was produced by Tisco with a recommendation to transfer the funds into a new SIPP with Aegon Retirement Choices (ARC). A further meeting was held to review the report and agree on the actions required. The proposed transfer was then initiated by Tisco and I pleased to report that, since the transfer was actioned, I have seen growth of over 3% in the past 4 months.

I continue to have regular contact with, and support from, Tisco to help me to fully understand how to access information in respect of the SIPP and how to make sense of the various charges. The people I have dealt with at Tisco have always been very approachable and patient, attributes that are very important when dealing with someone like myself.

  • “I had used TISCO’s services for many years but I needed their specific advice in connection with my need to find an investment vehicle for a pension share on divorce. In particular, I had a considerable amount of debt so I needed to be able to release some funds from that share as soon as possible. Mike and James came to my home and gave me clear advice both on that issue and generally in relation to my financial position going forward. As a result, a vehicle was found and I was able to release some funds on my 55th birthday which has helped to alleviate my debt problem. I am also very confident that with TISCO’s continued support, my financial future is in safe hands and I have no hesitation in recommending them.”

  • “Maureen and myself decided to retire 3 weeks ago. Prior to that we met with the staff at TISCO to discuss our pensions. We spent several hours with Mike Denton and James Smith sorting out the best way of utilising our pensions. They were most helpful and informative and very knowledgeable about all pension and investment aspects. We would like to thank you again for all your help.”
